Star-Studded and Totally Cool — Barbie Performs in the 1986 Rockers Ensemble and She Still Has New Wave Style

The Barbie and the Rockers Doll Hallmark Keepsake Ornament from 2010 was released as a Limited Edition — first available at the 2010 Keepsake Ornament Debut event and produced in limited quantities. The handcrafted resin figure depicts Barbie in the original 1986 Barbie and the Rockers performance ensemble: hot pink tuxedo jacket with star embellishments, silver metallic top, white mini skirt, pink leggings, white ankle boots, long sparkling earrings and a purple bangle bracelet. She holds a microphone. Sculpted by Patricia Andrews, dated 2010.

Barbie and the Rockers launched in 1986 as Mattel's response to the MTV generation — a pop star Barbie backed by a whole band, each member with a doll of their own. The line was an immediate success and ran for two years before being reformatted as Barbie and the Sensations in 1988. The 2010 Hallmark ornament is a faithful recreation of the original first-year Barbie Rockers outfit, and the Limited Edition status — with the 2010 gold corner badge on the box — gives this piece a collector significance above the standard annual Barbie ornament releases.
