The Travel Trunk Replaced the Window Box — and the Passport Was Not a Prop, It Was the Point

France Barbie comes packaged in a miniature blue travel trunk with gold corner brackets and a red FRANCE luggage tag — a packaging format that represented a complete reinvention of the Dolls of the World identity when the Passport Collection launched, replacing the window boxes that had defined the series since 1979 with something that felt like luggage.

The passport prop tucked inside is a direct nod to the original 1985 DOTW cutout travel kits that first-wave collectors still hunt for — Mattel's acknowledgement that the series had always been about the idea of travel as much as the destination. France Barbie, in her gingham skirt and beret, is a very specific vision of Paris that has been consistent since approximately 1955 and shows no signs of changing.
