Capricorn Gets Charcoal Glitter and White Fur — the Zodiac Collection's Most Understated Entry

In Mattel's 2004 Pink Label Zodiac Collection, Capricorn received the most restrained colour treatment of any of the twelve signs — a deep charcoal and silver glitter mermaid gown with a white faux fur stole and a silver ribbon tie at the waist, with the rhinestone sea-goat symbol on the bodice and the zodiac charm bracelet included. The long blonde hair and hoop earrings give her a cooler, more sophisticated presentation than the more dramatically coloured entries in the series, which suits Capricorn's earthy, no-nonsense reputation rather well.

Capricorn runs December 22 to January 19, making this the sign that bridges the holiday season and the new year — which gives the charcoal and white colourway a seasonal coherence that the summer signs lack. The 2004 Zodiac Collection is consistently well-designed across all twelve entries, but Capricorn and Scorpio tend to be the two most sought after by collectors who appreciate the darker end of the colour palette.
