Three Kelly-Sized Dolls Dressed as Dutch, Scottish and Spanish — Mattel Sent the Smallest Members of the Team to Europe First

The 2004 Friends of the World Europe giftset is the Kelly-scaled companion to the full-size Dolls of the World line, released as part of the 25th Anniversary Pink Label range and sold exclusively at Toys R Us. Three small-scale figures represent Holland, Scotland and Spain: a Dutch Kelly in blue and yellow dirndl with a lace cap, a Scottish doll in green tartan with a red pompom beret, and a Spanish doll in red and white flamenco dress with red fringe trim. The Toys R Us price sticker ($21.99) on surviving boxes dates this to the 2004 retail season and places it in the chain that was still, at that point, the definitive toy destination in North America.

The Dolls of the World series launched in 1980 with a single International Barbie and eventually visited over 40 countries across four decades. The 25th Anniversary editions in 2004 and 2005 used the Kelly scale to cover ground the full-size line hadn't yet reached. Finding both the G8063 and H6903 sets together means Mattel's six-country 25th Anniversary European survey is complete — three from the northern and western countries, three from the southern and central ones. The gold globe medallion on the box makes the occasion explicit.
