Princess of Ancient Greece Barbie wears a rippled copper-gold chiton drawn directly from the red-figure vase paintings of 5th-century Athens, with a sheer white himation pinned at the shoulder with a golden lion's head brooch, a coiled serpent arm cuff, and a golden laurel crown — the visual language of Athenian civic and religious life rendered in collector-edition doll form.

The Princess Collection launched in 2003 and was Mattel's most ambitious cultural costuming project since the original DOTW run — each doll came with a collector passport authenticating the historical context. Ancient Greece in 2003 was having a significant cultural moment: Wolfgang Petersen's Troy was in production, the BBC was midway through its ancient history renaissance, and the visual grammar of the classical world was everywhere.

Includes: doll, copper-gold chiton gown, sheer himation wrap, golden lion's head pins, serpent arm cuff, golden laurel crown, shoes, doll stand and certificate of authenticity.

Please note: Please note: DOTW Princess of the World dolls are susceptible to colour changes to their head. This is due to the plasticizers used. This doll has head discolouration - see pics.
