Skier Lorena is a 2001 Kelly Club release, official licensed merchandise of the Olympic Winter Games Salt Lake 2002 — one of the most watched Winter Olympics on record, and a Games that gave Lorena, in her green sequin ski suit with the number 16 on her sleeve, a specific competitive identity rather than a generic sporting one.

Alpine ski racing is the Winter Olympics event where a difference of hundredths of a second over two minutes of skiing separates gold from nothing — which gives the race number on Lorena's sleeve an urgency that distinguishes her from the more ceremonial doll entries in the Salt Lake series.
