Ferrari Barbie Number 2 is a 2000 Collector Edition — the second doll in a series that placed Barbie at the intersection of two of the most recognisable brands in the world. Ferrari was founded in 1939 by Enzo Ferrari, who had a well-documented aversion to selling his cars to the public, considering the road car business a necessary inconvenience that funded his racing programme.

Enzo Ferrari died in 1988. By 2000, the brand he built around the Prancing Horse logo had become one of the most licensed marks in the world, appearing on everything from clothing to watches to, now, a 2000 Collector Edition Barbie doll with a miniature Ferrari key chain. The branded jacket with working zip and the red faux leather skirt suit are recognisably Ferrari — exactly the kind of merchandise deal he would have found entirely baffling.
