Barbie as Glinda is a 1999 talking doll from the Wizard of Oz Collection — pink satin ballgown with silver stars and butterflies, lavender crown, a wand that goes "brrinnng" when you raise her arm or press the button on her back, and Glinda's line delivered in full: "Tap your heels together three times." Three replaceable LR44 batteries are included, because Mattel correctly anticipated this feature would get a lot of use. The 1939 MGM cast photograph printed at the bottom of the box places the doll squarely in the film rather than the book.

Billie Burke, who played Glinda in the original 1939 film, was 54 when it was made — something the pink bubble and the high voice completely disguised. MGM had already told her she was "too old" to play herself in their 1936 Ziegfeld biopic, so she turned up to Oz three years later and became one of the most recognisable characters in cinema history instead. The film turned 60 in 1999 — the same year as this doll — which was not a coincidence. Mattel's licensing team got very good at anniversary timing.
