Movie Star Barbie is the 1999 release in a deep purple star-patterned gown with body glitter included in the packaging — an accessory that tells you everything you need to know about where Barbie and late-90s celebrity culture were meeting at the time. The gown is dramatic and the star motif is exactly as unsubtle as the concept requires.

Late-90s Barbie leaned heavily into celebrity and red carpet themes, and the Movie Star release is one of the more committed entries in that territory — the body glitter inclusion in particular reads as a very specific document of the era.
