Barbie and Harley-Davidson Ride Out Together for the Second Time, With Even More Leather

Harley-Davidson Barbie #2 was released in 1998 as the second entry in Mattel's Harley-Davidson collaboration, following the 1997 debut. Designer Sharon Zuckerman gave this edition a darker, more road-worn aesthetic than the first — distressed faux leather and fur jacket, studs, buckles, cap, scarf, and satchel bag, all bearing the official Harley-Davidson logo. The bike she accompanies is a gleaming XL 1200c Sportster 1200 Custom, rendered to scale as a display piece rather than a working toy.

The Harley-Davidson Barbie series ran from 1997 through the early 2000s and is one of the cleaner examples of a brand collaboration that genuinely made sense — both names carry significant cultural weight in American popular iconography, and the resulting dolls were marketed explicitly to adult collectors. The second edition builds on the first with more elaborate riding kit and a slightly more rugged silhouette, appealing to the segment of the collector base that felt the debut had been slightly too polished.
