UConn Got a Cheerleader Barbie in 1997 and the Navy-and-White Poms Are Correct

University Barbie Connecticut Huskies was released in 1997 as part of Mattel's University Barbie range — a Special Edition series that produced cheerleader dolls for dozens of US universities with official NCAA licensing. The UConn edition dresses Barbie in authentic Huskies navy-and-white cheerleading uniform with the Connecticut Huskies logo on the sweater, carries matching navy and white pom-poms, and wears the white trainers appropriate to the role. The bend-and-move body allowed for cheerleading positions that a standard Barbie body couldn't manage.

The University Barbie series was copyrighted in 1996 and released through 1997, covering a broad range of schools — from major conference programs to regional institutions. For UConn specifically, 1996–1997 was a significant period: the men's basketball program under Jim Calhoun was building toward its first national championship in 1999, giving this particular university's edition a retrospective significance for fans of that era.
