The Box Opens Like a Stage Set — a Lit Stone Interior With Candlelight, and the Brunette Barbie Standing in the Middle of All of It

Pink Reflections Barbie was a 1997 Toys R Us Special Edition, distinguished from most of its contemporaries by the packaging: an open-front box designed to look like an illuminated stone interior with warm candlelight — a backdrop that gave the doll a theatrical presence on the shelf. The brunette edition (19130) wears a pink scroll-print ballgown with an oversized silver bow at the bodice and a silver lamé skirt panel, pearl necklace, and that particular dark hair that was used selectively on Special Editions through the mid-to-late nineties.

Brunette Barbies from the Toys R Us exclusive range of this era are consistently harder to find than their blonde counterparts, partly due to smaller production runs and partly because the open-front box format was harder to store and transport without damage. Pink Reflections is one of the more photogenic entries in the Toys R Us 1997 line and one of the more consistently sought-after by brunette Barbie collectors — the combination of the silver bow, the pink scroll-print, and the candlelit box interior gave it a presentation quality that the mass-market releases of the same year rarely matched.
