The 1997 animated film gave Anastasia one of the most compelling origin stories in nineties animation — a young woman who had to find out who she was before she could claim it — and this skating doll captured her at the moment of arrival: auburn hair swept back, a sparkling blue skating dress with fur-trimmed details, matching ear muffs and white boots ready for any frozen St Petersburg waterway.

The iridescent crystal crown and the whole cold-weather colour palette gave this figure a quality that went beyond the standard film tie-in release — there is a stillness to a skating doll in mid-pose that suits Anastasia's character particularly well, the sense of someone who has been through a great deal and is now, briefly, simply moving through something beautiful.
