Model 17591 is Cruella De Vil from the 1996 Mattel 101 Dalmatians release, a collector doll timed to the Glenn Close live-action film and one of the rare cases where the villain of the story got her own dedicated doll rather than a supporting role in someone else's box. The 1996 film leaned into Cruella's theatricality in a way that the 1961 animated version had suggested but never quite committed to, and Glenn Close committed so fully to the concept that the character became the conversation about the film before the film had even finished its opening weekend.

Villain dolls have a specific collector appeal that hero dolls cannot replicate, because the villain is always the most interesting character to spend time with and everyone knows it but few people say it directly. Cruella De Vil in particular has the quality of being genuinely right about everything except the fundamental ethics of the situation, which is a more nuanced position than most animated antagonists get to occupy. The 1996 Mattel version captures that energy and keeps it sealed.
