One of the First Themed Release Sets in the Li'l Friends Line — Birthday Chelsie Came With the Hat, the Dress and the Gift

Chelsie Birthday is a 1996 Li'l Friends of Kelly release — one of the first themed sets in the line that would eventually expand into dozens of scenarios across more than a decade. The Birthday series placed each character in a specific celebration scenario with a miniature accessory that made the occasion unmistakable even at 4.5 inches: party hat, organza dress, wrapped gift with a gold star.

Chelsie was introduced in 1995 as one of Kelly's original Li'l Friends — distinguished by dark curly hair, green eyes and freckles — and the Birthday series was the first time the Li'l Friends line moved into themed occasion releases rather than generic play scenarios. That makes this entry an early document of a design strategy that would define the Kelly Club run for the decade that followed.
