Barbie Goes to the Moulin Rouge in 1996 and She Is Absolutely Dressed for the Occasion

The Second Edition French Barbie was released in 1996 as part of the Dolls of the World Collector Edition series, dressed in a cancan costume directly inspired by the Moulin Rouge cabaret in Paris: a black and white striped fitted bodice with white lace ruffle at the neckline, a fuchsia satin skirt trimmed with two layers of white lace, black opaque tights, black boots, and a high-brimmed hat adorned with flowers and long feather wisps.

The Moulin Rouge opened in the Pigalle quarter of Paris in 1889 and is still running today - one of the few cabaret venues to have outlasted the empires, wars, and fashions of two full centuries while keeping essentially the same show, which gives this doll a more historically grounded concept than most of the DOTW line.
