Grecian Goddess Barbie is Volume Seven in The Great Eras Collection, fashioned after the goddess Athena — unusual in the Olympian pantheon in that she was born fully armoured and adult from her father Zeus's forehead, which is the kind of entrance that tends to make an impression, and which Mattel commemorated here with the most elaborately constructed headdress in the entire Great Eras series.

Athena was the goddess of wisdom, craft and warfare simultaneously — a combination that the ancient Greeks found entirely coherent — and the Great Eras Collection placed her in Volume Seven of a run that included everything from Elizabethan England to Ancient Egypt. The open book-style box with cultural notes and historical illustrations alongside the doll was one of the better editorial decisions the series made.
