Product Description

The Saxophone on Her Jacket Is Not Decoration — Bopsy's Whole Brand Identity Is That She Is the Wind Instrument of the Group

Bopsy is one of Barbie's Sensations bandmates in the 1988 line — light brown hair, blue satin jacket with a large saxophone graphic, neon yellow trousers and a lime green top. She comes with roller skates, a microphone and blue earrings, and the pink music-note box includes the Sensations cassette with hits from their animated special. Bopsy uses the Diva/Midge head mould, giving her a slightly different face from the other Sensations characters and an auburn-streaked quality to her hair that makes her the most visually recognisable of the four at a distance. The Child World / Children's Palace price sticker ($10.99) remains on the original box.

Bopsy arrived after the Sensations had already established themselves in animation — the VHS special Rockin' Back to Earth had aired in 1987, establishing the band's aesthetic before any of the dolls reached retail. The roller skates that came with all four Sensations dolls were a consistent design choice that emphasised the physical, performative nature of the band concept rather than just the music angle. Finding all four Sensations in the original box with their accessories is a specific collector challenge, as the roller skates are among the first things to disappear.

Please note: Please note: Everything is perfect except her legs have blotches due to the vinyl/plasticisers used. This is a common issue with this set release.
