Mardi Gras Barbie is the American Beauties Collection's love letter to New Orleans — a sparkling purple and black metallic gown with extraordinary oversized puffed sleeves, long underskirt, matching hat and a jewelled masquerade mask that puts the whole look firmly in the grand tradition of carnival nights on the streets below the French Quarter.

The American Beauties Collection ran from 1987 to 1990 celebrating great regional American celebrations, and the Mardi Gras First Edition is the one that carries the most energy — the confetti-strewn box illustration of masked revellers below makes the whole package feel like it is genuinely ready for the party.
