Teddy Ruxpin stands approximately 3 inches tall in a soft-velvet flock finish — golden-brown, arms raised, that warm friendly grin that had a generation of children absolutely convinced he was their best friend — the golden-brown Illiop from the land of Rillonia rendered in miniature with the same gentle energy as the full-sized animatronic bear.
The Teddy Ruxpin launch in 1985 was unlike anything the toy industry had seen — parents queued for hours, stores sold out within days, and children wrote letters to him as if he were real — and this flocked figure, small enough to slip into a pocket, carries that whole warm world in it.
