Western Winking Barbie Hit the Rodeo in a Silver Jumpsuit and Has a Few Stories to Tell About It

The 1980 Western Winking Barbie is the frontier icon in her shimmering white and silver jumpsuit — the western aesthetic filtered through the disco-adjacent glamour that the early-80s Barbie line handled with characteristic confidence. Her winking action mechanism no longer functions. There is a split down the back seam of the jumpsuit, and her boots have been replaced with similar vintage-style ones; both are visible in the photographs.

The Western Winking series used a pull-string mechanism to produce the wink — a feature that made it one of the more mechanically interesting Barbie releases of the era, and one that tends not to survive four decades of storage intact.

Includes: doll as pictured. Winking mechanism non-functional; boots are vintage-style replacements.
