The My First Barbie line worked from the premise that the mainline fashion doll was slightly too sophisticated for the youngest end of the market and that a gentler entry point would expand the audience in both directions simultaneously. The ballerina concept was the most successful version of that premise, partly because dancing is something children understand immediately and partly because a pink tutu is a very convincing argument at age three.

The My First Barbie series is consistently underestimated in collector circles because its original purpose was to be played with rather than kept, which means finding one in the original packaging requires the specific combination of circumstances that produces any truly scarce object: a child who received it, a parent who kept it, and forty years of everyone involved not deciding to throw it out. Model 1345 NRFB is the result of all three of those things happening simultaneously.

Manufacturer: Mattel
Country of manufacture: China
Model #: 1345
Melody Likes box condition grade: Very Good - View our box condition guide
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0709/4504/6718/files/1992-barbie-my-first-barbie-blonde-doll-1.jpg?v=1790565914
