Applause operated as a gift shop network primarily in mall locations and airport terminals, which meant their Barbie exclusives ended up in the hands of people who were passing through rather than specifically collecting, which is one explanation for why finding them sealed is more difficult than their original wide distribution would suggest.

The early nineties specialty retail Barbie market is one of the less documented corners of the collector landscape because the shops that carried these exclusives are mostly gone and the records of what they stocked went with them. The 1990 Applause Barbie is a specific artefact of that distribution moment, from a retail era that no longer exists, in a condition that the original retail context actively worked against.

Manufacturer: Mattel
Country of manufacture: China
Melody Likes box condition grade: Very Good - View our box condition guide
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0709/4504/6718/files/1990-barbie-applause-barbie-style-doll-2-1.jpg?v=1790641737
